Evening News (Reporter Xu Chi) At 11:00 on May 13, a fire broke out at a fried chicken shop at 479 Wanhangdu Road, Jing'an District. After a preliminary investigation, the cause of the fire was that the recharged electric bicycle battery malfunctioned during charging and ignited combustible materials around. Two employees in the store suffered local burns and were sent to Ruijin Hospital for treatment. After the incident, the fire rescue team of Jing'an District, together with the public security department and market supervision department, traced the source of the battery.
The fire department reminded that electric bicycle charging should be carried out outdoors, and units or residential communities should try to set up centralized outdoor charging carports. The charging time of electric bicycles should generally not exceed 5 hours. The nighttime charging should be cut off in time to avoid fire caused by battery heating due to overcharging.
