April 18 2019 A member of the public has been injured after a number of shots were fired and petrol bombs thrown at police during a major security operation in Londonderry on Thursday night. PSNI officers were searching houses in the Creggan area when the disorder broke out. Police have confirmed that shots have been fired in the area and appealed for calm. "We are currently responding to reports that a member of the public has been injured and I would appeal for calm," Superintendent Alan Hutton said. It is understood a woman has been taken to hospital for treatment to injuries received during the disorder. Footage on social media shows police landrovers being pelted with petrol bombs and other debris. A hijacked van and car have been set on fire in the middle of a road. Police have cordoned off the Fanad Drive area of Creggan. DUP Foyle MLA Gary Middleton described the disorder as "disgraceful scenes". ...
