Marc Gisin was on the track for a minute. The Swiss raced down the World Cup downhill in Val Gardena at high speed. A few meters from the notorious camel humps, the 30-year-old's skis went to sea. He tilted and fell. Gisin slid to the edge and took off uncontrollably. He flew in the air and hit his back hard.
Gisin slid down the hard piste for almost a hundred yards, scratching his face again and again, defenseless and lying unconscious. Immediately paramedics rushed to help and provided the downhill runner. The race was interrupted until Gisin was transported to a hospital with a rescue helicopter after 20 minutes of treatment.
"Marc has woken up and his condition is stable," said his sister Michelle, the combination Olympic champion of Pyeongchang, the Swiss newspaper "Blick". There was no further information on the condition of the racer at first.
